Garbage disposal installation across Maryland, DC and Northern Virginia

A disposal that hums, leaks from the bottom or seized for good is a same day swap on most calls. We bring a half or three quarter horsepower unit, pull the old one, clean the sink flange, set the new mount, hang the unit and reconnect the drain and the dishwasher line.

Tell us what needs fixing. We text back within the hour, 8 to 6.

Or call or text (240) 802-7282. Hours 8 to 6, Monday through Saturday.

How the job goes

The job we did in Annapolis this August is on the price list. The unit was supplied and the whole thing came to $265, labor and the disposal. Most of our disposal calls look exactly like that one.

Jobs we take

  • Like for like swap on a plug in unit
  • Upgrade from a third horsepower builder unit to a half or three quarter
  • New sink flange and mounting ring
  • Dishwasher drain reconnected to the new unit
  • Leaking or seized units removed and hauled
  • Air switch added on a counter with no wall switch

Who installs a garbage disposal in Maryland

A disposal connected to existing, exposed household lines is home improvement under section 8-101(g), the same clause that covers a dishwasher. An MHIC licensed contractor can do the swap. A plug in unit into the receptacle under the sink is handyman work on our crew, start to finish.

A unit that was wired straight into a junction box is different. Making that connection is electrical services under section 6-101(k) and goes to the licensed electrician. If the drain tailpiece or the trap has to be rebuilt, that part is plumbing and goes to the plumber. We tell you which from a photo under the sink.

In Maryland, piping, a plumbing fixture or a plumbing appliance is plumbing services under section 12-101(n) and belongs to a licensed master plumber or someone working under one. The one exception the statute names is hooking a dishwasher, disposal or icemaker to existing exposed lines, which section 8-101(g) calls home improvement, so an MHIC contractor can do that part.

The Maryland rule in full, with the statute sections, is on the Old Line Home Repair license page.
