Furniture assembly across Maryland, DC and Northern Virginia
A flat pack dresser is three hours and a sore back if you do it alone on a Saturday. Our crew does them every week. We unbox, sort the hardware, build on a drop cloth so the floor stays clean, square every joint before the last screws go in and haul the boxes out.
Or call or text (240) 802-7282. Hours 8 to 6, Monday through Saturday.
How the job goes
Beds, dressers, desks, bookcases, wardrobes, dining sets and the office chairs that come in 40 pieces. Anything taller than it is wide gets an anti tip strap into a stud, which is the one thing we fasten to the house.
Jobs we take
- Dressers, wardrobes and bookcases, strapped to the wall
- Bed frames, platform beds and bunk beds
- Desks, office chairs and conference tables
- Dining tables and chairs
- Outdoor furniture and grills
- Boxes and packing hauled out
Who assembles furniture in Maryland
Furniture assembly is not work on the house, so no trade license comes into it and the Maryland home improvement rule is not in play either. A handyman does the whole job. The one piece we fasten to the house is the anti tip strap on a tall dresser or bookcase, which goes into a stud.
The exception is a piece that becomes part of the house, such as a wardrobe built into an alcove or a wall of bookcases screwed together and trimmed. That is home improvement under section 8-101(g) and is done by an MHIC licensed contractor, which is who our crew sends anyway.
In Maryland, any work on wiring, a fixture or an electrical connection is electrical services under section 6-101(k) and belongs to a licensed master electrician or someone working under one. An MHIC license alone does not cover it.
The Maryland rule in full, with the statute sections, is on the Old Line Home Repair license page.
What it costs
Furniture assembly is priced by the piece and the hours it takes, with the anti tip strap included on every tall piece. We have not billed a standalone assembly on the public list yet, so the finished install and fixture jobs we have billed are below for scale. Send a photo of the boxes or the product page and the estimate comes back the same day.
What moves the price is on the furniture assembly cost page.
Every job is done by a contractor licensed with the Maryland Home Improvement Commission (MHIC). The license number is on your estimate.
